Wall Ties

Maystone Structural will survey your building and offer a remedial wall tie solution specific to the material and method your building is constructed from.

The majority of buildings built in the past 100 years consist of cavity wall construction. This means that there are inner and outer leaves linked with Wall Ties. This method gives a warmer dryer home compared with older solid brick construction. Unless the Wall Ties are made from stainless steel or heavily galvanised steel then there is a tendency for them to corrode, leading to problems such as bowed brick work, cracks and areas of lifting. If left untreated it could lead to expensive and complete re-construction of the outer leaf. Most buildings post 1980 have been built using stainless steel, alloy or heavily galvanised ties and are less susceptible to corrosion. Pre 1980’s properties are more likely to have been built with inferior steel ties and should be inspected to determine their present state of condition.

Maystone Structural will carry out a survey of your property’s Wall Ties. Most surveys are unobtrusive, we locate existing wall ties using a metal detector and only need to drill small holes in the facade to gain access with our borescope. Our surveyor will determine whether or not wall ties are required and out line the full process of works necessary on the survey.
